Senior Mens Thursday golf Aug 31 2017

Dice, Red, Cubes, Die, Shapes, Two

Golf for the Thursday’s seniors golf, wound up on Aug 31 this year as the weather in past September’s has been rainy and cold.

The sun was out and the temps were about 10 c at tee off and climbed to 23 c by the time play was finished afer 18 holes.

12 players signed up for the day’s outing, the 4 lowest handicap golfers each picked two players names out of  hat to form the teams.

The format for the day was “roll the dice” .each player is assigned a number from 1 to 3 and #4 was a roll over, # 5(happy face, take the best ball) #6 (sad Face, take the worst ball.) Each Player hits their Drive off the tee and then the Dice is rolled to see which drive would be used.

From that point on each player hit from the spot which was the best position on the fairway or green.

The team of Wayne Thomas, Ed Kennedy and Richard Lampi had the best luck with the dice and ended  with a 74 on the day.

Ray Laquerre, Gary Ladouceur and Pete Barna followed with a score of 76, with one birdie on  Hole #13.

Jean Lambert , Vern Herbert and Lance Beauregard, turned in a 77 with a birdie on #8.

Jerry Cripps, Harold Mosley and Steve Splowski, rolled the dice poorly and ended up with a score of 83.

Thanks to Ed Kennedy for organizing the teams every week and for looking after the winners and losers all summer.

Thanks  to Motown for a great meal at the end of the day.

Senior golf on Thursday mornings will continue until the course is closed, with a start time of 9.30 am. for the next couple of weeks.

A moment of silence for senior golfers Ted McLeod and Leo Lamarche was  observed .

The  golfers survived strong Texas winds and had a good time
Friday, March 24, 2017.

This was the ending of the La Copa League for another year.
The winds were gusting to 35 MPH, we also had a sprinkle of rain  on holes 5,6,&7.

(the rain always seems to start when you are at the farthest point away from the clubhouse)
You can see by the flag straight out in the picture of the men’s foursome the strength of the wind.
The luck was with the girls as they beat the boys. Howard  thinks it was the rusty golf balls they had to play with after the rain.

left to right, Jim Williams, Howard Stewart, Bill Kozak and Duane Miller.

It was a good year for golf with many golfers taking part in the league, thanks to all who came and golfed at Cottonwood and we hope everyone comes back again.

thanks to Howard for the pictures taken in March and to Gerry

for the updates and the scorecards sent, Joyce for the tees and Dice (the loaded ones that some players used

Golfing Heron Landing

heron landing golf course

On Friday may 6th, a nice warm sunny day with a slight breeze on the front nine, turned into a windy day for the last nine holes..

Three senior golfers from little Falls golf club, Wayne Thomas, Richard Lampi and Ray Laquerre met up with Gordon Hoskins from the Kitchen Creek golf course to Play at Heron Landing which is on Frog Creek in the Couchiching First Nation Reserve.

Heron Landing Golf Course is a very well looked after course with 5 different tee off’s, with the black tees playing 7136 yards for par 72.

The reds play the shortest with a total of 4589 yards. We played the white tees with the total length of 6211 yards.

Wayne shot the lowest score of the day 88 and had 1 birdie, Gordon shot a 94, Richard shot a 98 with one birdie and Ray turned in a 101 with one birdie.

Each player sampled the water at least once as the water comes into play on 12 of the 18 holes. Ray tested out a few of the sand traps as well and visited  some of the rough.

It was a pleasant day on the course, the course at Little Falls had not opened yet so the players drove 90 miles to play at Heron Landing.

Pre Season golf course repairs

For the first time in many years a group of senior golfers, were allowed  to do some volunteer maintenance on the red tees on the first hole at Little Falls Golf Course.

This tee off had a slope which caused the right-handed golfers having to hit from a downhill lie and the left-handed had an uphill lie.

Now that the tee is level all golfers should be able to score at least one stroke better on this hole.

Thanks Goes to Ray Laquerre and the recreation director Nicole Halasz. of the Township of Atikokan as well as the Union for their cooperation enabling the senior golfers to do this work to make the golfing experience better for all the golfers.

Thanks also goes to Tramin for the loan of a front end loader to move the soil to the tee area and to Oggie’s Landscaping for his tools and expertise in removing and replacing the sod.

Many thanks to those who helped in the work, Ray Laquerre, John Williams, Pete Barna, Jean Lambert, Tod Bryck, Wayne Thomas, Larry Ogden, Richard Lampi, Rick Cain.
